The 20. Indian Film Festival Stuttgart as guest in the park of Villa Reitzenstein


On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart will be a one-time guest in the park of Villa Reitzenstein, the official residence of the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg (Head of State Government), on Saturday, 22 July 2023.
Between 12 and 7 pm, visitors can explore the park and watch selected films from the festival programme in a cosy open-air setting.
Families are very welcome! Authentic Indian street food and cold drinks will be available throughout the day.

Panel discussion in cooperation with the State Ministry of Baden-Wuerttemberg
With reference to the festival opening film ‘Gulmohar‘ by Rahul V. Chittella, the panel will discuss what it can mean to leave one’s homeland and to start anew and become at home in a foreign country. Aspects of the welcoming culture in Baden-Württemberg will be discussed, how skilled workers from India can be recruited, what experiences people from India have had so far and how Baden-Württemberg can become a hotspot in international competition.

Sabine Zoller has been organizing charity concerts in the “Klassik im Kloster” series since 2006. With “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” (Yours is my whole heart), the 54th charity concert takes us into the world of operetta and musicals. The programme features emotions and pas- sion with which baritone Frazan Adil Kotwal, soprano Emmanuelle Chimento, and Yu Tashiro on the grand piano enchant the audience.
These include not only classics from the operetta repertoire, but also rousing musical songs and renowned compositions on the grand piano.
As at the five previous events, the proceeds of the concert will be donated to the Indian Rainbow Association, which supports orphans in India.
“Klassik im Kloster” has so far raised over 22,000 euros for this purpose.

Zakir Hussain belongs to the Jaipur Gharana musical family of Hindustani classical music. He sings Indian classical, Sufi and Gazal.
Arif Khan plays Santoor, he was musically trained since the age of five by his ancestors who are great musicians from the Delhi Kirana Gharana.
Ustad Sharif Khan is a highly respected tabla master from a famous traditional musical family in Rajastan. He has been taught singing and tabla since the age of seven.

His early musical training inspired the award-winning virtuoso to pursue an M.A. in Instrumental Music at Rabindra Bharati University Kolkata. His gurus were Archaya Ajoy Sinha Roy, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury. During the Corona Lockdown, Nawab Khan from Rajasthan organised two festivals in coopera- tion with Theater am Faden and documented them on film.
Traditional music and dances in the musicians’ village Barnava Jageer in the Thar Desert.
A three-day Raaga festival in the famous Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur.
Both films were shown in abridged form at the Indian Film Festival 2022. The long version of the concert film will now be screened at the Theater am Faden, complemented by the documenta- ry about the musicians’ village.

The German-Indian Round Table (GIRT) has set itself the mission of promoting economic relations between Germany and India.
Several times a year, German and Indian entrepreneurs and managers meet to exchange experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and to discuss current topics from economic policy, society and culture in relation to India.
The GIRT in Stuttgart is hosted by Honorary Consul Andreas Lapp and is guest at a panel discussion of the Ministry of State Baden-Wuerttemberg this year.
