Mitten im aufstrebenden, modernen Stadtteil Wakad im Distrikt Pune, umgeben von Hochhäusern, bewirtschaftet der 70-jährige Bauer Sudhakar Bhujbal sein kleines Stückchen Land. Während seine Familie und die Nachbarn ihre Grundstücke längst verkauft haben und in Hochhäuser gezogen sind, bleibt Sudhakar. Nicht aus Widerstand oder Ideologie, sondern weil die Bewirtschaftung des Landes das einzige Modell ist, das er kennt. Während die Stadt um ihn herum wächst und die Wolkenkratzer in die Höhe streben, bleibt er geerdet, ruhig und unberührt von der geschäftigen Hektik um ihn herum. Der Film behandelt an diesem Beispiel das zunehmend rasche Verschwinden von Ackerland. Räume, die einst offen, grün und lebendig waren, werden heute von Beton, Glas und Baustaub überschattet. Die Urbanisierung hat sich zu einer Art Wettlauf beschleunigt, Städte dehnen sich immer weiter aus, das Land, das die Menschen einst ernährte, schrumpft und Lebensmodelle, die seit Generationen bestanden, verschwinden.
What does it mean to persevere when the world around you is changing at breakneck speed? In the heart of the up-and-coming, modern neighbourhood of Wakad in the district of Pune, surrounded by high-rise buildings, 70-year-old farmer Sudhakar Bhujbal tends his small plot of land. Whilst his family and neighbours have long since sold their plots and moved into high-rises, Sudhakar remains. Not out of defiance or ideology, but because farming the land is the only way of life he knows. As the city grows around him and skyscrapers soar skywards, he remains grounded, calm and untouched by the bustling hustle and bustle around him. Using this example, the film explores the increasingly rapid disappearance of farmland. Spaces that were once open, green and vibrant are now overshadowed by concrete, glass and building dust. Urbanisation has accelerated into a kind of race; cities are expanding ever further, the land that once fed people is shrinking, and ways of life that have existed for generations are disappearing.
