Lakshmi beginnt, regelmäßig einen Arzt aufzusuchen. Forty-eight-year-old Lakshmikant Sharma lives in Old Lucknow with his wife, daughter and widowed mother. He takes the 8:45 metro every day to work and drops his daughter to college on his way. Lakshmikant’s life: pure monotony? Not really, because Lakshmi wants to wear sarees, apply pink lipstick and live like a woman. But that doesn’t seem to be possible. Lakshmi begins to see a doctor regularly. When she finally plucks up the courage to come out to her family, all hell breaks loose. ‘Night Queen’ is a story about suppressed desires, grief and complex emotions – but also a story about courage and self-love and breaking through social barriers.
