This film is a poignant exploration of the human spirit, a timeless tale of resilience and redemption, about a village thief known for his cunningness and wit. Based on the characters in the Assamese short story ‘Kadoa’ by Anuradha Sarma Puzari.

Geboren in Assam, führte der Beruf seines Vaters die Familie von Bidyut Kotoky durch den gesamten Nordosten. Nach der Schule ging er für sein Studium nach Pune und erwarb einen Master-Abschluss in Wirtschaftswissenschaften und einen weiteren in Massenkommunikation. Schon früh entschied er sich für seine Berufung – das Filmemachen. Im Jahr 2006 gewann sein Film ‚Bhraimoman Theatre – where Othello sails with Titanic‘, der auf dem Wandertheater von Assam basiert, eine Besondere Erwähnung bei den National Awards. Sein erster Spielfilm als Autor und Regisseur ‚ekhon nedekha nadir xipare – as the River flows‘ ist zweisprachig (Hindi und Assamesisch) und wurde von der National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) produziert. Der Film gewann den Preis Bestes Drehbuch (Bidyut Kotoky) und den Preis für Bestes Schauspiel (Sanjay Suri) auf dem Südasiatischen Filmfestival 2013 in Washington DC. Sein Spielfilm, ‚Xhoixobote Dhemalite – Rainbow fields‘ handelt von den Auswirkungen von Gewalt auf Kinder. Der Film wurde auf internationalen Filmfestivals gezeigt, angefangen beim Indian Panorama auf dem IFFI (Goa), und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, darunter den Preis Bester Film beim Hollywood CineFest, dem Love International Film Festival (Los Angeles) und dem Erie International Film Festival (Pennsylvania).

Born in Assam, his father’s profession took Bidyut Kotoky’s family all over the northeast. After School, he left for Pune for his higher studies and obtained a Master’s degree in Economics, another in Mass Communication. Very early in life, he had decided his vocation – filmmaking. In the year 2006, his film ‘Bhraimoman Theatre – where Othello sails with Titanic’ based on the travelling theatre of Assam, won a Special Mention in the National Awards. His first feature film as writer and director ‘ekhon nedekha nadir xipare’ – as the River flows’ is a bi-lingual (Hindi and Assamese) one and is produced by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The film won the Best Script (Bidyut Kotoky) and the best actor (Sanjay Suri) award in the 2013 Washington DC South-Asian Film Festival. His feature film, ‘Xhoixobote Dhemalite – Rainbow fields’ deals with the effect of violence on children. The film has travelled to international film festivals starting with Indian Panorama at IFFI (Goa), winning many accolades including the best film award at Hollywood CineFest, Love International Film Festival (Los Angeles) and Erie International Film Festival (Pennsylvania).
