Der Film ist inspiriert von der wahren Geschichte eines schwulen Majors der Armee. Karun, ein junger Soldat aus Kerala im Süden Indiens, ist in Gurez stationiert, einem abgelegenen Dorf im nördlichen Kashmir, nahe der pakistanischen Grenze. Eines Tages taucht am Kontrollposten ein junger Mann namens Faheem auf, der ihn mit einem entwaffnenden Lächeln bezaubert. Dies ist der Beginn einer Romanze zwischen Karun und Faheem. Eine Romanze, die von Anfang an zum Scheitern verurteilt ist. Obwohl der Oberste Gerichtshof Indiens die Homosexualität entkriminalisiert hat, erlaubt es das toxische männliche Milieu der Streitkräfte Karun nicht, offen zu seiner Sexualität zu stehen. Auch Faheem befindet sich ein einem Dilemma, denn in seiner Kultur ist Homosexualität „Sünde“ und für jemandem Gefühle zu entwickeln, der als „Feind“ angesehen wird, scheint undenkbar. Doch das Herz hört nicht auf die Vernunft, die beiden verlieben sich, in der Hoffnung, sich über den Hass erheben zu können.
This film is inspired by a real-life story of a gay army major. Karun, a young army man from Kerala in the south of India, is posted in Gurez, a remote village in Kashmir, the north, which is very close to the Pakistani border. One day, a young man named Faheem appears at the checkpoint and charms him with a disarming smile. This is the beginning of a romance between Karun and Faheem. A romance that is doomed right from the beginning. For Karun, despite the Supreme Court of India having decriminalised homosexuality, the toxic male milieu of the forces does not allow him to be open about his sexuality. And for Faheem, it’s not only what he has been told to be a “sin” but the dilemma of falling in love with someone who is perceived as the “enemy”. Yet, the heart does not listen to reason, they fall in love, hoping to be able to rise above the narrative of hate.
